Postgraduate Bridging Program

All new international students enrolled in a Business School masters program must participate in this Bridging Program.

This Program is designed to introduce new international students to the cultural, social and academic conventions of study at the University of Adelaide and make the transition into their studies as smooth as possible.

The Bridging Program begins two weeks before the start of lectures and students will not be permitted to commence if they are unable to attend the entire program – enrolment is conducted on Day 1.

The dates of the Semester 2 Bridging Program are July 13th to July 23rd 2009.

The Bridging Program is designed to give students insight into cultural attitudes towards learning and teaching, the types of oral and written work that is expected of them, as well as ways in which they can improve specific academic skills. As part of the program, students work on a group project involving a written report and an oral presentation. These are presented to peers and staff, giving students the opportunity to gain confidence and receive constructive feedback.

• Critical thinking & analysis
• Time Management
• Exams: revision and exam writing strategies
• Assignment writing: expectations, the writing process, different types of assignments
• Integrating sources: plagiarism, acknowledging ideas, citing sources in-text, reference lists
• Lectures & note taking
• Effective reading strategies
• Group research projects
• Oral presentations & Powerpoint slide preparation

The program also includes an orientation, an online enrolment session, campus tour and library tour. Students will be given time to also attend the University of Adelaide orientation activities in the first 2 days of the Bridging Program at the International Student Centre and will include an arrival briefing session.

Continuing support is available throughout the masters program in the form of seminars and individual consultations. The provision of Learning Support is part of the service we provide to our international students, to assist and encourage their success in our programs.
