The Academic Language and Learning Services is part of the Centre for Learning and Professional Development (CLPD). ALL staff facilitate a range of academic seminars for undergraduate, Honours and postgraduate coursework students.

A drop-in Helpdesk is available each day at 2 – 4pm to address students' academic concerns. No appointment is needed for these sessions.

Undergraduate
Undergraduate students can attend the academic writing and skills development seminars held each semester, as well as access the range of online resources available from ‘Writing and Speaking at Uni’ through MyUni, and the ALL printed learning guides.

Honours and postgraduate coursework
For Honours and postgraduate coursework students, ALL offers a series of group seminars which focus on academic literacies involving:

• departmental expectations about reading and writing for academic assignments

• the types of writing required at postgraduate level

• techniques for successful writing

• workshops where academic staff work closely with students to advance students’ writing

English as an Additional Language students
Weekly English language conversation classes are held at the CLPD for English as an Additional Language students with local volunteers. The Volunteer Learning Support Scheme also provides opportunities for international students to become better acquainted with Australian culture.

The LLS also offers an introductory session for mature-age students to assist their transition into university.

Workshops may also be arranged in response to specific requests from students and staff within departments, schools and faculties.

The Maths Learning Service offers free support for all University of Adelaide students meeting maths (including stats) in their studies.

In particular, they run a free Maths Drop-In Centre (see below) for students to consult tutors about maths or stats problems over a cup of tea or coffee. Students may stay as long as they like and visit as often as needed. No appointments required.

Services offered include:

• The Maths Drop-In Centre is open from 10am to 4pm during teaching weeks and swot vacs. Our friendly staff are available during these times to help all students understand the maths in their university courses. No appointment is necessary. During breaks, assistance is still available by contacting the MLS and making an appointment.

• Bridging modules for students with an O-Level maths background who are studying Mathematics 1A, 1B, 1MA or 1MB.

• Bridging courses in pre-tertiary maths and stats including online modules . Free self-paced bridging courses to cover prerequisite maths knowledge.

• We provide quick revision worksheets on various maths topics plus online refresher modules. Our website also contains links to useful maths resources specific to various University of Adelaide courses.

• Workshops for small groups can be arranged

• Books, videos and web-based materials

This guide provides students with valuable practical information about the communication skills that are required of them in their studies.  For example, information is provided about how to:

• write essays and management reports
• make engaging oral presentations
• correctly cite and reference sources
• independent learning
• academic expectations

Every student is expected to use the “Comskills Guide” as a reference for all courses.

Your lecturers and tutors are available to answer questions or clarify any course material you maybe having trouble with. It's highly recommended you contact the lecturer and/or tutor as you encounter problems throughout the semester rather than leaving your questions until swot vac, or the day before the exam!

Consultation times and locations can be found in the course outline.

The library skills tutorial is an on-line resource designed to provide students with the skills needed to access books, journals, databases and Internet sources for the purpose of researching course assignments.  It will take approximately three to four hours and is ideally completed over a number of sessions.

In addition, first year students are encouraged to complete and participate in the online Library Skill Tutorial the School of Economics have built it in to one their first year courses - Principles of Macroeconomics I. This is not a compulsory component; however, it will be counted as 1 out of 10 tute options you can complete. It is compulsory for students to complete a minimum of 8.

The Disability Liaison Officer can assist with information and advice about accessing services (i.e. note taking, special equipment and alternative exam arrangements).

The administration staff may be able to answer student questions. If further assistance is needed they will book an appointment with the Disability Liaison Officer.

The EWOs advise students about welfare resources on campus, financial matters (i.e. emergency loans, and advise on Youth Allowance, Austudy or Abstudy), housing, personal issues and academic matters (including support with grievances)

University Health is a research and teaching practice in association with the Department of General Practice providing comprehensive and confidential health care to all students and staff in a friendly and comfortable environment.

Parklands is open Monday to Friday 8.45am to 5pm all year round except for public holidays.

The Student Centre has been set up as a central point of contact and deals with a wide range of enquiries regarding programs, admissions, procedures, fees and changes, enrolments, examinations and graduations for all prospective and current students

The Adelaide Business Students' Association (ABSS) is a student run and established association, which exists to provide all the non-academic splendours of studying Commerce, Finance and Economics at the University of Adelaide. It runs and manages many events, both social and professional, as well as providing various valuable services, including an online book sale and advisory on future careers in Commerce.

AIESEC, the world's largest student organization, is the international platform for young people to discover and develop their potential so as to have a positive impact on society.

The Overseas Students' Association (OSA) is the official student organisation that represents all international students at the University of Adelaide. International students at the University are automatically members. The OSA is an affiliate of the Adelaide University Union, which provides funding for OSA endeavours.

The OSA was formed in 1985 and continues to be the main focal point for the coordination of social activities for international students, as well as representation and support for the needs and rights of international students at the University of Adelaide. Located on the 1st Floor of the George Murray Building in the Cloisters are the OSA Offices and the OSA Lounge for international students. 

Life at university has more to offer than just study. There is a complete range of recreational activities to be had through the Adelaide University Sports Association.
