Julio Bertrand Planella - Chile

Civil Industrial Engineer

"Before being enrolled in the University of Adelaide MBA program, my previous work experience was being team leader of investment portfolio within Chilean oil company, Sipetrol, which is the international exploration and development branch of the national state oil company called ENAP. As such, I was responsible for project portfolio evaluation and consolidation together with participatiion in budget definition and measuring performance drivers.

Being involved in an international industry with many different cultures, technical backgrounds and managerial practices where the knowledge exchange and creativeness are critical success factors, I decided to enrol in the AGSB MBA program to learn and improve managerial skills required in the oil industry worldwide. The Adelaide MBA exposed me to a different culture, language and economic environment, which today is a key factor in an interdependent global economic system. The Adelaide MBA would provide me the opportunity to share experiences with managers in an advanced professional career from different industries and professional backgrounds. Finally, the Adelaide MBA program was designed in such a way that it allowed me to select those subjects which were relevant in my professional development and that complemented my previous and future career with Sipetrol.

The Adelaide MBA helped me to recognise my managerial weaknesses and strengths, which is crucial in a knowledgeable and dynamic world. The MBA provided me the opportunity to analyse and comprehend some management subjects, which complement widely with my engineering background. Having the possibility of learning and discussing different controversial management practises allowed me to get a better understanding of how to tackle managerial and organisational challenges in the future.

Finally, Adelaide is an attractive and developed city that offers international students not only an enjoyable place to live but also a university environment, which makes studying easier and more interesting."
